the world of tommorrow...

finally gotten around to watching sky captain.. what an entertaining movie... what a wonderful way to end the week.. hee.... hmm but i regretted missing the opening sequence... went in 2 mins late... i think there wasn't any trailers or ads shown. read in the papers that it took 4 years for the director/writer to come up with the 6 min part. and it was this clip (which he used an old Mac to create) that started the story going, convinced jude law to be part of it.. etc etc...

though jude's law performance was not up to the high standards he set in "enemy of the gates", or "cold mountain", who cares? this isn't a movie to criticise, it's just a pure entertainment movie... anyway there's Alfie, the Aviator, Closer, Lemony Snicket, I love Huckabees... so many movies with jude law in it.. haha....

one think that's stuck to my mind: what will you take pictures of if you only have 2 frames left in your camera? film one of course hah.. that predicament was faced by Gwyneth Paltrow in the movie. she lost her extra rolls of film in a fire, and was caught out in the wilderness with just the camera. when presented with weird scenes of strange creatures or huge rocket designed to destruct the world... all that can make the front pages, she hesitated in the hope of having better pictures to take further in the journey. in the end, one shot was accidently wasted when running for her life from a flying monster... then at the end of the movie, when she could have taken a pic of all the parachutes floating down, she chose to take a pic of jude law. he gave her a bewildered expression... "lens cap" he said.. she forgot to remove her lens cap!! haha.....

next movie: 2046!!!

Imagine - John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

first8

was reading this time magazine which is a few weeks old. still trying to catch up, cos there was a period of time where i didn't go home for a long stretch...

anyway there was a small column with an interesting photo which caught my attention.. (me being a wannabe photographer...) you can read the article from www.time.com/time/asia/magazine/article/0,13673,501041004-702201,00.html

I went to the website http://www.first8.org and was fascinated.. the sheer magnitude overwhelmed me so much i cried briefly... i knew there was poverty and hunger and discrimation around the world, but the effect of putting all these into a photobook was amazing... it makes all my troubles seem so small and insignificant... why should i care how much money bizcom loses, when there are pple who live on less than a dollar a day? why care abt what clothes to wear for MM opening, when there are children who don't even get to live to my age?? haiz....

i suddenly recalled the project that i wanted to do at the beginning of last term... i wanted to hold a series of events to raise awareness of such pressing global issues in nus students.. wanted to tie in with unicef or something... somehow i was so caught up with mundane stuff like chasing standing comms for proposals, reports, budgets etc that this project just slowly slipped away.. now i'm so ashamed of myself... i could never do anything substantial, anything worthwhile... i see no direction anymore... haiz....

munchie monkey second opening (will there be another one??)

what a lousy day it was.. every lecture started late.. either the mic was not working.. or the projector... then for one lecture, i forgot to bring my notes! had to rush back to kuok.. oh, and i was given something to do for the design project, to be finished by today!! argh... hate my design project!!! and of course there was the opening of munchie monkey by prof shih. i ran back to kuok just to change out of my exco tee, into shirt and pants... haiz...

guess that's why i shouldn't drink at all last night. alcohol makes a tired body even worse.. more so when i was in such a foul mood... haha sc was shocked when i flicked his ear.. haha.. luckily it wasn't some girl sitting there instead...

oh, met this cute girl there. gave her my msn... but she hasn't added me yet... haha.. guess my "red" face turned her off...

the food was better, and more variety.. thankfully... but i didn't enjoy it very much. i'm glad there was enough for me to give jiehua.. hasn't been meeting up with him for a long time, only on msn.. must do so b4 he leaves for italy...

not collecting my x-box on fri. collecting on sat morning instead... hee =)

munchie monkey is finally open!!

after such a long wait... with many doubts whether he can pull this thru... with him playing games by shifting the deadline... plus all his weird excuses... it is finally open!! though today's opening wasn't grand at all... doesn't matter i guess.. had fun chatting with vince and the rest.. haha

feel really great with my short hair now. though some pple say it's ugly, but guess what?? I DON'T CARE!!! i'm so comfortable with this now.. no more red eyes... no more oily face... no more messy hair.... hmm but i need to buy my own bottle of gel... feel really bad borrowing from sc... haiz

oh, caught pearl harbour on tv that day? anyone paid attention during the hospital scene? i noticed that the mattresses used in the hospital are exactly the same as those in kuok now!! haha... that was in 1941... so long ago...

can't wait for the weekend... collecting my x-box on fri hopefully.. hee....

Alias

oh man... last's night's episode was amazing.... alias had always been engaging and fast-paced, but this episode was so different. kinda like a flashback thing, but a slightly different technique. made me sit up for a while.. haha i called my fren on the phone cos i thought there was an error.. cos halfway thru after the 2nd commercial break, it showed the beginning of the episode again. luckily i managed to understand b4 my fren called back.. if not super paiseh... haha.... anyway it was such a great way to show 2 different perspectives of the same events. now that there is a pair of good guys vs a pair of bad guys, it seems so appropiate for this episode... alias never fails to amaze me... haha...

ah yes... the episode ended in a cute tender moment... where jack asked her daughter syd out for dinner.. with a norah jones song playing in the background.. sweet.. =)

Pearl Harbour

Doris Millar Posted by Hello

just watched pearl harbour. remember this guy? he was a cook on USS Arizona. anyway he is a real person, with a true story. just that it wasn't told out in full...

apparently there was still racial segregation in US, even when they were preparing for the war. This was written on the note beside this poster:

"Black American, Doris Millar was restricted to the job of messman where he received no gunnery training. But during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, he used an anti-aircraft gun- firing and hitting several Japanese planes. He was awarded the Navy Cross, but only after pressure from the black press."

Saw this poster at the Sydney Maritime Museum last dec, there happened to be an exhibition of WWII propaganga, sponsored by US... interesting stuff they show there. if there is anyone interested, can always see the pics in my laptop someday. i already have much trouble trying to upload this one picture liao...

lazy weekend

finally got to watch "Le Choristes".. what a beautiful movie... i was so touched that tears came to my eyes so many times... haha... should go watch it if it's still showing, guys... the french can really tell a story. can't wait for the french film festival at the end of the month..

watched it with my pri sch fren. been almost a yr since we promised to meet... she sent me a friendster msg, and i couldn't remember her at all then.. haha... now that i met her, i got a bit of impression now...

that's all i did last weekend.. apart from the massive survey-compilation which took up one whole sat!! hope that this effort will not go wasted..

Just Older - Bon Jovi

Hey, man, it's been a while
Do you remember me?
When I hit the streets I was 17
A little wild, a little green
I've been up and down and in between
After all these years
Can you believe I'm still chasing that dream
But I ain't looking over my shoulder

Chorus:
I like the bed I'm sleeping in
It's just like me, it's broken in
It's not old -- just older
Like a favorite pair of torn blue jeans
This skin I'm in it's alright with me
It's not old -- just older

It's good to see your face
You ain't no worse for wear
Breathing that California air
When we took on the world
When we were young and brave
We got secrets that we'll take to the grave
And we're standing here shoulder to shoulder

Chorus:
I like the bed I'm sleeping in
It's just like me, it's broken in
It's not old -- just older
Like a favorite pair of torn blue jeans
This skin I'm in it's alright with me
It's not old -- just older

I'm not old enough to sing the blues
But I wore the holes in the soles of these shoes
You can roll the dice 'til they call your bluff
But you can't win until you're not afraid to lose

Well, I look in the mirror
I don't hate what I see
There's a few more lines staring back at me
The nights have grown a little colder
Hey man, I gotta run
Now you take care
If you see coach T.
Tell him I cut my hair
It's been all these years
Can you believe I'm still chasing dreams
But I ain't looking over my shoulder

Chorus:
I like the bed I'm sleeping in
It's just like me, it's broken in
It's not old -- just older
Like a favorite pair of torn blue jeans
This skin I'm in it's alright with me
It' s not old -- just older

welfare!!

just had my first official "encounter" with the welfare standing comm. it's been quite some time since i've been civil in a meeting, haha... answering questions with a smile, opening doors for others, generally acting nice... feels really weird.. haha... anyway those who are reading this, pls support us by doing the simple survey. it's abt the mid-term break. hopefully we can garner enough responses and bring it up to the sch admin...

just saw that i only got a "distinction" for nussu colours award. sad... haiz... what to do?? apparently it is a "points-based" system. so the more events/comm a person do, the higher award the person get. ya right... so it's abt quantity, never abt quality anymore... is this where nussu is headed to?? good pple will never be recognised and appreciated.... there's always an outflow of talent.... not saying i good lar, but then.... HAIZ..... what a sick organization nussu has become.....

jean asked me a few days ago why i joined nussu. i couldnt answer her then. if there is ever an answer, it will go like this: i join union camp cos of SAF Day (couldn't join fac camp or sports camp) => get to know fun and happening pple, most imptly my best fren in nussu SC, have a very gd impression of nussu's organising this O'camp => joined bizcom only becos SC asked me to (ok lar, also cos of councillors...) => kena nominated to be treasurer of bizcom => helped to do FIC log cos need the points to stay in hall => got to know the short fart => asked to run for exco.... that's abt it. hmm now that i think abt it, was i like the current pple in exco now? being asked to run just to fill up the numbers? just to have a confirmed vote? sad how hindsight always makes things clearer.... oh well... i'll just do the best with what i'm doing now... "welfare, all the way!!!"

my inaugural post

well, this is it.. my very own blog... i can't really pinpoint my motivation in starting one, at this stage where pple are already blogging at such a furious pace. to keep up with the Jones? not my style... then is it to share what i think, what i feel, what i am? i have always thought that blogging isn't the best way, but oh well.. times have changed... technology has permeated our livestyle so much that i cannot ignore it anymore... so this is it... my very own blog!! hee =)
